This past weekend local Philadelphia radio station WXPN hosted their annual 3-day festival on the Camden waterfront at Wiggins Park & Marina and at BB&T Pavilion under bright sunny skies with the air filled with music, day and night. XPN Fest is known for showcasing global, national, regional, and local acts, some you might not end up hearing or seeing if it wasn't for WXPN hosting their platform which encourages and welcomes new, independent artists all over the country.
XPN Fest feels like home to many artists who've played the stages there through the years, as many bands and artists got their start on those exact stages share the stage with some the most exciting new acts out there. Over the course of the festival fans meandered between the stages and visited vendors and booths offering everything from tasty eats, discounted concert tickets to local shows, Dogfish Head beer, kids activities, visiting local craft vendors along the path inside the park, to hanging out in the Subaru tent in the shade where a guitar was being auctioned off to fans in the center plaza, everyone had something to do while taking in the serene view of the Philadelphia skyline and the Delaware river on the Camden watetfront.
The XpoNential Music Festival and the WXPN radio station are both member-supported, which brought a slew of festival volunteers at XPN Fest sporting their green festival volunteer T-shirts, lending out their time to support one of the premiere festivals in the area. This year the festival featured Headliners Tedeschi Trucks Band, Pigeons Playing Ping Pong, Los Lobos, Ani DiFranco, with Cory Henry, Strand of Oaks, Nicole Atkins, guitar sensation Christone 'Kingfish' Ingram, The Record Company, Shovels & Rope, Devon Gilfillian, Michaela Anne, Adia Victoria, Tommy Conwell and The Young Rumblers, and Jade Bird. Festival goers were also treated to music from newer, budding artists like Great Time, Cimafunk, Sierra Ferrell, Arthur Thomas & The Funkitorium, Paul Beaubrun, Stella Ruze, Sofia Valdes, Hoochi Coochi, Anna Shoemaker, and joining the action on Sunday was the brass troupe of Snacktime Philly, who also performed alongside Devon Gillfillian on the River Stage.
