Cactus Karma: His Home The Sky
The soft jazzy melodies of Cactus Karma come through in a 6-piece team of steadfast R&B troubadours from Princeton, NJ who recently released their new song "His Home The Sky" on video. Cactus Karma plays World Cafe Live next week on June 3rd after this weekend's show at the Terrace in New, KY. Soothing vocals from Pam Soffer paired with the sensual saxophone of Divya Farias open the doors to this tune, joined by Spencer Hadley on Trumpet and Noah Fishman on the mellow bass lines. Logan Roth, keys, and Arjun Dube on drums complete the composition in this subtle and soulful yearning to take flight felt in the lyrics and the vibe of a broken-winged bird with light inspired eyes who dreams of the sky. "He's from the sky, just let him fly". Comforting solos to the bird from keyboardist Logan Roth and from trumpet Spencer Hadley, who composed the soulful track
The song, which was not part of their 2015 released EP Marmalade, is a hip-hop and jazz inspired tune that features contemplative lyrics exploring the concept of freedom as an artist. The introduction, reminiscent of Ornette Coleman, is free and carefully layered while the groove, laid back but still danceable, harkens back to Outkast and J-Dilla. The video is clean and simple, highlighting the earnest energy with which these technically skilled musicians play their instruments. Shot by Evan Chapman of Four/Ten Media and produced by Darla Hood Productions.
