Festival Recap: Sensorium Music and Arts Festival 8/25/2018
Saturday August 25th, the Sensorium Music and Arts Festival returned for their 2nd year with local and regional acts, curated by Philly's own local Funktronica powerhouse, Tweed, and featured eletronic hydro-funk outfit Sunsquabi who joined the lineup as headliner with Tweed, Baltimore’s jam kings, Electric Love Machine, Electro-soul fusion trio, Wax Future, MINKA, Philly's own funk troupe Darla, and Agent Zero. Later in the day we saw a special performance from Tweed drummer Joe Vela's side-project, 'Bad Leather', as well as the always energetic and high-kicking World Town Soundsystem, followed by Producers Patrick Richards, Daedelus, Flamingosis, Digital Frontier, and Humandala also spinning up the action on the decks. This year’s event was held at The Ukie Club on Franklin street in North Philadelphia, moved from its previous location of One Art Community Center in West Philadelphia. Along with a stacked cast of talent, The 2018 Sensorium hosted an even larger array of local vendors and artists this time around on the green and spacious grounds nestled in Northern Liberties section of Philadelphia and welcome a friendly crowd of fans under partly cloudy skies, making for perfect temps and perfect times.
Sensorium Festival is Philly's end of summer bash celebrating the city's thriving diversity in music and arts. This event brings together people from our community to dance, discover new and spectacular music, and be astonished by extra-sensory art installations. Founded in 2017 by Joe Vela, entrepreneur and drummer for Tweed, the Sensorium Festival is thrown in honor of host-band Tweed’s late friend, Suman Addya, who was an inspiration for Sensorium events and regularly traveled on the road with Tweed.
Check out photos and videos from the full day's events, and take in the sights and sounds of Sensorium.
