The 2018 Beardfest: A three-day celebration of creative expression June 14th-16th in Hammonton, NJ
Beardfest is a three day celebration of creative expression that strives to enliven the artist in everyone. Beardfest offers attendees the opportunity to unplug in South Jersey’s beautiful Pinelands Preserve while enjoying music that spans an incredibly wide range of genres; but their definition of entertainment goes far beyond the spectator/performer dichotomy. At Beardfest, attendees have the opportunity to collaborate on large scale murals throughout the campgrounds, practice yoga, participate in a variety of collaborative music making activities, and share ideas and stories in curated workshops.
Having just released their 2018 lineup on Monday, Beardfest is chock-full of amazing talent this year with local, regional, and national acts which will surely draw a crowd. First curated in 2012 by local jam-prog masters, Out of The Beardspace, Beardfest will be hosting acts like Moon Hooch, Ghost-Note (Snarky Puppy side project), local funkateers Swift Technique, Tweed, G-Nome Project, party funk trio Muscle Tough, Hungry Ghost, prog shredders Gnarbot, Karmic Juggernaut, Edenspore, Suburban Sensi, Medusa's Disco, The Underwater Sounds, the young talent of Zachademy of Music, Consider The Source's John Ferrara joins Seth Moutal for a Duo, Sex Office, Miss Cantaloupe, Upstate Rubdown, Arturo Stable Salsa Explosion, Liat, The Quixote Project, The Ladles, and Pansong. Along with Out of the Beardspace, this year's festival features a peculiar grouping of John Medeski/Billy Martin & Mono Neon joining up together along with Marco Benevento, each as nightly headliners on the cozy beach of Paradise Lakes Campground.
Beardfest will host a slew of events during the three day festival including various workshops and select vendors who will be camped out with us all weekend. Also on site will be team ROMPUS, who create large-scale improvisational paintings inspired by surrounding people and sounds, playing with light, shadow, resists, dance, and color to create vibrant, theatrical art. As they paint, their bodies are hidden from the audience but also backlit, so their shadows become part of their work. They pay homage to the natural world with imagery from cellular and galactic structures, animals, plants and life cycles. ROMPUS is also dedicated to creating spontaneous, collaborative spaces all around the festival grounds for everybody to paint. This year the ROMPUS team will take live art at Beardfest to a new level with scrims enveloping the stage, an expanded community painting area, and some surprise tricks they have hidden up their sleeves.
