Control For Smilers with Aqueous & Dale and The ZDubs - Ardmore Music Hall
March 12, 2016
The Reggae-Rock-Ska vibes of Dale and The Zdubs got the night moving along with some feel good originals like Oxygen, Find a Way and She's the One. Lots of energy coming from these guys from Washington DC , note the Redskins hat on bass player Sean. Saxophone player Brandon Moultrie had an Ewi that he used for parts of the set, adding a pretty cool spacey/synthy sound to the mix with a clarinet's appearance. Here's the full audio & video from their set captured by Chris Cafiero: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LlYbfowQu5Q

We're always glad to have the Buffalo quartet of Aqueous come to visit. The band wasted no time in jumping to some heavy jams with some nice vocal harmonies sprinkled throughout in tunes like 'Don't Do It', David Bowie's 'Fame'and 'Numbers and Facts'. Several teases were layed out on us during the set from the likes of Moe, 311 and Phish. The set did feel a bit short as they were lacking on time, we'd love to see Aqueous for a 2-set appearance next time they come back to Philly. Check out our video below of 'Don't Do it'
Philly's Phish tribute Control For Smilers headlined the night with two sets wandering into songs like Suzy Greenberg, Gumbo, 2001 and a heavily jammed out Mike's Song which was equally shredded by guitarist Henry McGuigan who has the Anastasio sound almost down to a T. Matt Agostini also impressed on the bass with some definite sonic mastery. We even got a taste of some new Phish content like No Men in No Man's Land, featured in their New Year's Eve 'Hourglass Set'...a song that I personally believe will end up on Phish's next album which is being worked on in the coming weeks.
