Cheers to 5 years of the Ardmore Music Hall!
This September marks the 5 year anniversary for the Philadelphia Main Line’s home for live music, The Ardmore Music Hall. After opening its doors in 2013, the Ardmore Music Hall has swiftly established itself as more than just a place for music, but as a home away from home for a strong community of music lovers. To celebrate its fifth year, the Ardmore Music Hall will run a series of top-talent shows this fall featuring returning favorites and brand new faces.
From September 12 through September 23, the club will host an eclectic array of talent to celebrate 5 years in style:
9/12 The Movement & Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad: Reggae rockers
9/13 Mike Stern: Jazz guitar legend and his band
9/14 Holly Bowling: performing classical renditions of Grateful Dead and Phish songs
9/15 Ted Leo: Indie rock singer-songwriter
9/16 Stanley Clarke: Philadelphia’s own jazz bass hero with his band
9/20 Railroad Earth: New Jersey jam/bluegrass sensations
9/21 The Dead Milkmen: Philadelphia punk rock pioneers
9/22 Marco Benevento: Eclectic multi-instrumentalist
9/23 Splintered Sunlight: Grateful Dead tribute celebrating 25 years playing 23 East
AMH is offering a limited number of 5-show passes during this run. For only $100, you receive a general admission ticket to five shows of your choice between 9/12 and 9/23, as well as a free ticket to any AMH show in 2019. Ardmore Music Club members who purchase this pass receive FIVE free tickets to any 2019 shows.
Show of Hands, a Citra Pale Ale brew inspired by begonias and brewed with sunflowers, will be the newest release from the Fermentaria at Tired Hands across the street from AMH. The initial tapping of Show of Hands happens at AMH on Wednesday, September 12th, when reggae rockers The Movement and Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad kick off the anniversary festivities at 7pm. The first 55 people who enter the venue will receive a free pint of Show of Hands and commemorative glass.
The beer will be served exclusively at Ardmore Music Hall throughout our entire Five Year Anniversary show run, from the date of the tapping through September 23rd's Splintered Sunlight (Grateful Dead tribute) finale show. There will be another free tasting of Show of Hands for the first 55 attendees that evening as "Splintered" celebrates 23 years playing our 23 East Lancaster location.

The Ardmore Music Hall is housed in the storied room at 23 East Lancaster Avenue by managing partners Chris Perella and Tom Linquist, who brought a wealth of experience and new ideas over from their former positions managing The Blockley from 2009 to 2013. But the room at 23 East is no stranger to live music. Prior to being known as the Ardmore Music Hall, the venue was designated The 23 East Cabaret (from 1980-1994) and Brownies 23 East (from 1995-2012).
Heavy hitting names such as Phish, The Dave Matthews Band, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Ramones all performed in this room at one time or another while rising to stardom. Now established as The Ardmore Music Hall, the talent that visits this building has remained impressive. Since changing hands to its current owners, main talent buyer Chris Perella teamed up with Jesse Lundy and Rich Kardon of Point Entertainment (and the beloved former Main Point), along with Bryan Dilworth of Bonfire Entertainment to recruit the finest local and national acts.
Legendary names such as George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Maceo Parker, Television, Toots & The Maytals, Stanley Clarke, Wyclef Jean, Macy Gray, Bill Kreutzmann of the Grateful Dead, Chris Robinson Brotherhood, KRS-One, and Robby Krieger of The Doors have all sold out concerts here in the past 5 years; in 2015 and 2016 the venue hosted Live From The Lot, an outdoor concert and festival experience that drew acts such as Dr John, Soulive, and Snarky Puppy.
Venue Manager Sara Shoenberger has worked at the space since it was Brownies 23 East and has seen its transformation first hand. “When I look back at 23 East Lancaster Ave at this time 5 years ago, I remember feeling overwhelmed but optimistic. I was excited for the opportunity to bring back the site’s roots of live music, both local and national,” she says. “Today, I still feel that same excitement but I also feel confident in how we operate. I look at the team we've built, experiences we've created and shared with our customers as well as the consistent praise from the artists who come through the venue and I am proud. I have watched this room grow into an industrious force and I have grown right along beside it.”
