Sunday Night with Art Alexakis and Friends: Songs & Stories Tour at Keswick Theatre in Glenside, May 26th
Art Alexakis, the charismatic frontman of the multi-platinum rock band Everclear, brought his intimate and acoustic Songs & Stories Tour to the Philly metropolitan area for a show at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside, PA on Sunday evening. This is Art's first tour since sharing with fans his battle with multiple sclerosis.
Joining Alexakis was fellow platinum artists Chris Collingwood (Fountains of Wayne), Max Collins (Eve 6) and John Wozniak (Marcy Playground). The Songs & Stories tour delivers a one-of-a kind opportunity for each frontman to perform stripped down versions of their band's hits, deep tracks, and new songs, and the stories behind all of them. Alternating from solo artist to the four playing songs together, first up was John Wozniak of Marcy Playground, playing some old sing-along favorites, including 'Sex And Candy', followed by Max Collins of Eve 6, performing a few tunes including 'Open Road Song' and the hit 'Inside Out' coupled with some of his own banter. Up next was Chris Collingwood of Fountains of Wayne, performing some new and old, including the hit 'Stacy's Mom'. Last up was Everclear's Art Alexakis, performing 'Strawberry', 'Father of Mine', 'Everything is Wonderful' and the platinum hit, 'Santa Monica', while trading banter with the crowd, with even a young girl in the third row catching Art's attention.
The four artists as a quartet performed Tom Petty's 'You Don't Know How it Feels', R.E.M's 'Don't Go Back to Rockville', and The Band's 'The Weight' to close the night off. The 2+ hour performance delivered in an intimate, seated theatre setting at the Keswick Theatre, was capped off by an interactive encore, allowing fans a unique opportunity for Q&A, special requests, and 'come what may' banter. Songs & Stories was an interactive and intimate evening with each artist responding to requests and giving tidbits of their lives and their careers in the music business. Coming up, Alexakis and the quartet take the Songs & Stories tour to Huntington, NY this Wednesday and to Gramercy Theatre on Thursday May 30th. Check out photos from the performance below.
