Recap: lespecial with Flux Capacitor & Euphonious at The Foundry at Fillmore - Wednesday 2/26

A solid night of music and jams last night in Philadelphia with power trio lespecial in town joined by regional PA jammers Flux Capacitor and Philly’s own Euphonious at The Foundry at Fillmore Philadelphia. Up and coming band Euphonious kicked off the night, a thriving Philly-based five-piece band that absolutely made the most their slot opening for these two other powerhouse bands. The band played an all-original set that blew everyone in the room away, as we watched the excitement in the room grow. Guitarist, Cody Gordon held strong riffs and kept tight precision, flowing nicely with rhythm guitarist Jon Hess, playing off each other skillfully with younger brother, Joey Hess, on the drums. We heard some amazing work from Jacob Maniette on keys, adding levels and layers to their performance, which I really wasn’t expecting. Down and dirty bass lines from Marc Ponte gave their powerful sound some good depth, progressively bringing The Foundry crowd to the rail to rock out with them. Catch Euphonious next with Gnarbot & Qway at Milkboy in Philly on 3/26, grab tickets HERE
I was excited to see the next band up, Flux Capacitor, and had the privilege of seeing their first show together with their recently added personnel of at Dam Stock when they got paired up to play a Jefferson Airplane set with vocalist Cassy Yost and bassist Stephen Kurtz, and right then and there I knew I’d see them together again, now as permanent members of the band. The energy and chemistry between lead guitarist Jason Specht and Yost was amazing, they played a new song called ‘Red Sun’, which had an awesome reggae vibe, sure to fare well with their summer festival crowds. Mixed in with Flux Capacitor’s strong jammy originals, Yost took over on vocals once again for a fun version of Led Zeppelin’s ‘The Ocean’. Her powerful vocals show you exactly why she is in this band, as she effortlessly hit the highs and lows, giving Robert Plant a run for his money! This Summer Flux Capacitor Hosts Flux Fest June 19-21 in Lehighton, PA at the Ukrainian Homestead
Out on their current Serene Winter Cheen Tour and capping off our night, headliners Lespecial totally rocked! For a 3-piece band, they generate a ton of sound with just bass, drums, and guitar. Synth layers and loops coupled with heavy rhythms and melodies solidifed their sound. What I find fascinating about them is how they seamlessly switch leads from guitar to bass and back again. And of course, no Lespecial show is complete without a nod to Primus, and let me tell you, “Those Damn Blue Collar Tweekers made my world go around”. (see video below) Check out the rest of their tour schedule at lespecial.net
An amazing Wednesday night at the Foundry if you’ve never checked these bands out before I highly recommend that you make a point to see them as soon as you can. I have a feeling that you’re going to be hearing a lot more from these bands coming up in the future as each head out on their respective tours and make Summer festival appearances.
