Euphonious: New Music & Performances in 2023
Euphonious as a word is defined as ‘a sound pleasing to the ear’. Euphonious as a band follows suit, creatively weaving together the threads of a range of genres, creating a sonic balance, both unique to its own style, yet comfortably reminiscent of the many musical influences it draws from. Based out of Philadelphia, Euphonious at its core, can be described as a psychedelic rock band, yet it imaginatively incorporates many elements of prog, dance-rock, funk, blues, jazz, and electronica into its already hypnotically lush sound, creating something as equally powerful as it is danceable. The band has been making waves as of lately, performing at local and regional music festivals like Beardfest, Some Kind of Jam & Electric Halloween Festival, and have also performed at venues like Philly's World Cafe Live, The Foundry at Fillmore, The Boom Room, Milkboy and others.
Citing influences like Pink Floyd, Thank You Scientist, System of a Down, JoJo Herman, World/Inferno Friendship Society, Widespread Panic, Dopapod, Umphrey's McGee, CCR, and even the German composer, Johann Sebastian Bach, Euphonious's rigorous rehearsal and individual practice time has paid off well for the quartet in developing their own eclectic sound, which the band refers to as, "Prog music for people who don't like prog". The band comments, "We are lucky enough and grateful that practically all the members of Euphonious live on the same street surrounded by four other households of creative and talented musicians from other up-and-coming local projects, including The Red Meat Conspiracy, The David Koster Band, Conn & Co., Pushing Tiger Lillies, Creatures of Content, and members of Mums The Word."
On writing songs, "In regard to the album that we're currently producing, Cody and Marc will write a bare bones structure and melody of a song, and then bring it to the table where Jake and Ian can freely express their creative take on what's been started, adding some meat and potatoes to it, and the song evolves naturally from there....any individual member of the band can have an idea and bring it to the table for us to evolve it from together, but never does one person dictate exactly how the song should sound, or which journey it takes."
