Solar Circuit: One Around The Sun
August 21st, 2017
Released last week on August 21st, Solar Circuit's One Around The Sun is the debut album from the Philadelphia Jamtronic/Trance/Funk fusion quartet which features tracked out cuts of their energetic live performance improv and ambient jams, giving a richly produced studio sound. Solar Circuit's 10-track LP takes listeners through a dynamic journey while they manipulate space and sound on the album. Tracks like Nectar, Colors and Retinal take deep jumps in tempo and improvisation, blasting through galactic nebulas with skilled guitar work from Nick Orlove and mind-bending tones from Becca LeVan on synths and keys. Even with influences like The Disco Biscuits, STS9, Lotus, and Phish, Solar Circuit maintains a unique style and sound in their live performances and in their recent studio work while mixing in the dance/trance element and sometimes even reggae and ska. Philadelphia is recently a breeding ground for young jamband/jamtronica acts, and Solar Circuit is a clear contender and player in the field. Keep an out for Solar Circuit at a venue near you.
