The Ardmore Music Hall Celebrates The Summer of Love
It’s been 50 years since the “Summer of Love” – a moment in history where peace, love, and freedom inspired positive grassroots change and experimental music flourished. The Ardmore Music Hall will celebrate the energy and music of this period during their summer season, featuring tributes to Jefferson Airplane, the Grateful Dead, The Beatles, Monterey Pop, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, Janis Joplin, The Byrds and more.
The Ardmore Music Hall “Summer of Love,” in a partnership with Victory Brewing and 102.9 WMGK, begins next week on Thursday, May 18th with The Airplane Family & Friends and Live Dead ’69. The Airplane Family reunites Jefferson Airplane, Jefferson Starship, and Hot Tuna alumni – Darby Slick, Slick Aguilar, Peter Kaukonen and others to comprise a veritable “Who’s Who” of The Summer of Love’s legendary musicians. Live Dead ‘69 features original Grateful Dead pianist Tom Constanten, who played all the keyboards on the original “Live Dead” recording; and Mark Karan, lead guitarist with Bob Weir’s Rat Dog and The Other Ones, which featured every other surviving Grateful Dead member. Live Dead 69 will perform the classic “Live Dead” in its entirety for the first time ever.
On Saturday, June 3rd, popular local Beatles tribute the Newspaper Taxis will perform the classic album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band in its entirety in honor of the album’s 50th anniversary. Bird Watcher and special guests will open and play the solo music of The Beatles’ members.
The following weekend, Ardmore Music Hall is excited to welcome back countercultural icon and activist Wavy Gravy as the guest of honor for our celebration of the Grateful Dead, Unlimited Devotion: A Weekend of Goodness. This jam-packed weekend will feature star-studded performances by Steve Kimock (RatDog), Aron Magner (The Disco Biscuits), Michael Travis (String Cheese Incident), John Kadlecik (Furthur), Vinnie Amico (Moe.), Tom Hamilton (Joe Russo’s Almost Dead), and more; as well as an art exhibit of historic concert posters, and screening of the Grateful Dead documentary 'Long Strange Trip'. Proceeds will benefit the Rex Foundation and Camp Winnarainbow. Full details for this special weekend can be found at ardmoremusic.com/unlimited- devotion.
On Saturday, June 17th, AMH presents Ardmore Pop, a tribute to the apex of the Summer of Love, the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. Talented musicians such as Indigenous, Johnny Showcase, Ali Wadsworth, and The End Of America will be recreating Monterey Pop performances from Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, Janis Joplin, and The Byrds, respectively. More performances TBA!
