Bovine Social Club Take Tom Waits on the Road, appear at 118 North June 2nd
Americana folk rock band Bovine Social Club will bring their five state, five city production of “Clap Hands: The Poetry and Song of Tom Waits” to 118 North in Wayne, PA on June 2nd at 7pm. Known for their sold-out Waits re-creations at the legendary jazz club Deer Head Inn, in Delaware Water Gap, PA, the Bovines will take their Clap Hands show on the road to NJ, PA, VT, NY, MD, with a perfect spectacle of love and misery, angst and serenity. Their first and only PA show of the tour, at 118 North, will feature an ensemble of musicians including vocalist, guitarist, and writer, Samuel Saint Thomas, bassist and vocalist Ron Baumann, Irish fiddler and vocalist Casey McGinty, accordionist and vocalist Tyrant Taylor, guitarist Steve Shalit, and drummer AJ Jump.
"Tom Waits preaches, much like my Pentecostal preachin’ father, parading across the American emotional landscape,” says Samuel Saint Thomas, band leader for the Bovines. “That’s only one thing that attracts me to Waits’ work.” After carefully mining Waits’ catalog of poetry, lyrics, obscurities, and oddities, the Bovine ensemble will interpret and perform his work in pure Americana style. Formed on the banks of the Delaware River, and informed by Celtic, old time, Gospel, country, and bluegrass vocabularies, Bovine Social Club has been lighting up audiences with their original music in listening rooms, famed coffee houses, theaters, and amphitheaters from Vermont to Virginia. The band has released two independent releases to date: their self-titled debut, produced by Tim Carbone; and “Live at Mauch Chunk Opera House,” recorded at the vaudeville venue in Jim Thorpe, PA with friends from Railroad Earth.
