Philadelphia Funk-Fusion Trio Expansion Project releases sophomore album, Phenomenal Thought
Philly jazz fusion and funk trio, Expansion Project, have re-entered the atmosphere, having just released the remixed and remastered, Conscious Tortoise, on May 10th featuring Emagination, Lincoln Boulevard, and Lunar, first released in November of 2018. Now, in the Summer of 2024, the band has released Phenomenal Thought, a 10-track musical journey offering an electrifying blend of vibrant funk-fusion sounds. The trio delivers fresh new sounds coupled with artful, lyrical injections in songs like Visit, The Garden and Escape Plan, it really shows that they've been hard at work on the new material, all while re-mastering the old.
Although a trio, in many instances the space filled by Expansion Project may sound like a 4-5-piece band, as they push the boundaries of jazz and funk. The trio had a strong Summer and Fall in 2019 before the pandemic, performing at venues around Philly like the Grape Room, Butter Lounge, PHÂRMÂCY, Wissahickon Brewing Co., 118 North and at festivals like Flyday Music Fest, Inclusion Festival, Night Lights Festival, Funky Fest, Whirly Bird Music Fest, Sunground Fest, Strange Soiree, and more.
