Jazz is PHSH - Ardmore Music Hall 4/21/2016
Phish is in the air. With their back-to-back appearances in Philly the past two years and coming up this year in late June it's no wonder we get a special project like this to come visit us. The Chase Brothers, drummer Adam and guitarist/vocalist Matthew have spearheaded the project of Jazz is PHSH which began in 2015. The Phish tribute is currently finishing up their touring with Trombonist Scott Flynn of Pretty Lights, saxophonist Chris Bullock of Grammy winning Snarky Puppy, bass player and instructor Anthony Wellington of the Victor Wooten Band, Kevin Moehringer on Trombone, Josh Thomas on Keyboards and Michael Ray on Trumpet who has played on Phish's 'A Live One' recording in 1995 and with Trey Anastasio's Surrender to the Air project with Jon Fishman. Jazz is PHSH has taken the collective approach at these tricky, progressive tunes from the famous jam band from Vermont and deliver a sound that any true fan of music would love.

Starting off the show with a fan favorite and also the most played Phish song, You Enjoy Myself got things moving at Ardmore Music Hall as they shuffled through the Phish catalog followed by tunes like The Story of The Ghost, Dinner and A Movie, The Moma Dance, Carini, and although they hinted at not playing a Prince song the ensemble capped the night off with Purple rain (see video below).  Back in the early 1990s Phish made a habit of touring with a horn section, The Giant Country Horns which always added a fun flavor to their music. One of the prominent GCH members, Carl 'Gears' Gerhard, joined Jazz is PHSH on trumpet and provided some strong solos. Matthew Chase held a solid grasp on the Anastasio tones, tearing away at scales and arpeggios,  yet kept himself a bay with a whole herd of wind instruments ready to pounce back.  Jazz is Phish continues on to New Orleans on April 26th to join Turkuaz at the Howlin' Wolf at Midnight then closes the tour up with their last performance at the House Of Blues Chicago on June 24th.
