Tweed with Mike Greenfield and The Space Cats
Underground Arts 6/2

Philly's funktronica powerhouse, Tweed, will return to Underground Arts in two weeks for their third time headlining the increasingly popular Philly venue that draws on eclecticism in the best way. They'll be joined by Lotus drummer Mike Greenfield and by Philly jam quartet, The Space Cats, for a special night of jams. Greenfield will tour with Lotus next month starting June 23rd where they'll be appearing at Electric Forest, Camp Bisco, and a pair of dates at Red Rocks Amphitheater later in the summer. Tweed has also announced the first section of their summer tour schedule which can be found here and below, and one thing I know about this band is that they love to tour.
One of the busiest young jam acts out there on the scene, these four Philly locals put an immense amount of energy into their music, their fans, and their schedule. New music is also bubbling out of camp Tweed which we're soon to hear, following up on their freshman album, The Chunky Life. We got a chance to chat with drummer Joe Vela about the upcoming show at Underground Arts and about what's in the future for Tweed:
215: The Chunky Life was released in September 2016, You mentioned new music, is Tweed currently working on an album or just a handful of tracks you'll be debuting?
Joe Vela: We've been slowly chipping away at a new full length album at Brooksound Studio. We're in the process of writing, recording, and touring all at once. There are around 12-15 new tracks are somewhere along in that process and three that are 90% completed. We're getting as many new tracks incorporated into our live repertoire each week and hopefully there will be something brand new at Underground Arts.
215: That sounds exciting, wheels are moving! You guys jumped in head first about 2 years ago, and you travel an assload lately! Has life on the road been eye-opening in any way for you?
Joe Vela: Yeah, we made music our full time jobs in January 2016 and did 145 shows that year. The road life can be difficult, but it's extremely rewarding. For example, as we speak, I'm laying in our van on the crunched up pile of clothes we call a bunk on the way to Nelson Ledges in Ohio to play a festival. I find it amazing how many rich and diverse music scenes there are across the country and how many interesting and open people we meet.
215: Couldn't agree more, the amount of festivals seems to be multiplying yearly! At Underground Arts: Greenfield, a drummer, you're a drummer...2? How will that play into things on stage with him at the show?
Joe Vela: Greenie is a good friend of mine and we've been talking about doing several different types of collaborations. Hopefully we can figure out a way to fit everyone on the stage! I also can't wait to see his solo hip-hop set.
215: I appreciate how he just loves to collaborate, hell of a nice guy too! Any special plans again this year for the Fall, Halloween & New Years Eve?
Joe Vela: We're planning to do a classic Tweed Halloween run in the region. Appropriately, Tweed was birthed at a Halloween party, so we always try to incorporate special treats and tricks in our set. Personally, I'm going to Europe in October too! I'd love to team up with another band for NYE. Where do you want to see us?!
I will also say we are throwing our own major event in the Philly area to be announced later.
Before making their stop at Underground arts on June 2nd, Tweed hits BRYAC in Bridgeport, CT, The StrangeCreek Campout festival in Greenfield, MA and the Metro Gallery on May 31st in Baltimore with Dry Reef.
