After a sold-out night in Philly on Tuesday, Pixies played to another packed house on Wednesday. Warming up the crowd was Kurt Vile and the Violators, you may recognize from the Philly native band The War on Drugs, who delivered a fantastic set of songs that blended the genres of indie rock, folk, and a touch of psychedelic-country.
Pixies took the stage promptly at 9:20 and kicked off the night with their haunting rendition of “In Heaven (The Lady in the Radiator Song)” sung by the newest member of the band, bassist Emma Richardson. A classic Pixies night it was indeed, with songs like “Vamos,” “No. 13 Baby,” and “Where Is My Mind.” Black Francis, Joey Santiago, and David Lovering, with Richardson, played with a practiced ease expected from music veterans. There was no setlist taped to the stage floor to aid the members; there was no need. They transitioned from each song effortlessly. Moody, hard-hitting, and classic, the dedicated crowd cheered on the group with a vibrant energy that was well deserved.
The tour moves on to Washington, DC, at the Anthem, and then they will continue through cities like Detroit, St. Paul, San Diego, and many more the next two months before bringing their show to Australia and New Zealand.
