Hailing from the Northern Beaches, the Australian multi-genre infused band Ocean Alley brought their tour to the city of brotherly love last night to a crowded venue of excited onlookers. With their new album, Love Ballon, releasing this September and produced alongside the famed Nick DiDia, who worked with Bruce Springsteen, Ocean Alley brought all the love to Philly. Opening the night was the Nashville-based rock and soul band, Bird and Byron. The six-piece group filled the stage with smooth jams and a steady energy that intrigued the audience, gaining loud cheers and encouragement, a feat all on its own (Philly audiences garnering a reputation for heckling artists that they don’t like). And the love did not stop there.
Ocean Alley hit the stage at 9:15 with their song “Tanergine,” “Knees,” and “Partner in Crime.” The atmosphere was light and soulful, and the audience was completely in the moment – the little glowing screens of cellphones were few, a surprise that I was not expecting. Ocean Alley will continue their tour, hitting cities across the United States and playing major festivals like Lollapalooza in Chicago this week. For more information and show dates, click here.
