Today, the Philadelphia-based rock ‘n’ roll artist Low Cut Connie announced his new album Livin in the USA will be released July 3 via Contender Records. Alongside the announcement, Adam Weiner has shared a statement about the album which can be read in full HERE. Also today, Low Cut Connie released the album opening title track “Livin in the USA." Read an excerpt of Weiner’s statement below (download full PDF here):
"I made this record because I am disgusted to see our country descend into an authoritarian hell a moral vacuum a place where art does not lead the cultural conversation. I made this album to say fuck you to this regime to the brutality and inhumanity of our political and tech leaders. They are assholes with no class, taste, morality or art in their bodies. I made this record because I refuse to let these motherfuckers steal our art and steal our joy. Music with soul communicates on a level that no algorithm or tech bro or artificial intelligence or political machinery can ever understand or contain. Rock n roll is a table flipping artform It's time to flip the table again."
Next month, Weiner will embark on his “Livin in the USA” solo tour which commences on March 3 in Chicago and will make stops in St. Paul, Nashville, New York City, and more. The limited 14-date run will be a feel-good non-denominational spiritual experience mixing music, comedy and protest. Tickets are on sale now.
Late last year, Low Cut Connie released the poignant ballad “Settle Down,” which was accompanied by featuring a video photo essay by acclaimed photojournalist Alex Wroblewski. His pictures depict many incidents of militarized policing, beginning with photos from Ferguson, MO in 2014 through ICE raids and National Guard offensives in Chicago, Memphis, and Washington, D.C. this year.
He also released a solo piano version of “Livin in the USA,” which was inspired by Weiner’s experience traveling around the country over the last year, and subsequently canceling his scheduled performance at The Kennedy Center earlier that year. Last February, Weiner was one of the first artists to withdraw from performing at The Kennedy Center and shared a powerful statement that was covered by Rolling Stone, The New York Times, and many more. Over the summer, Weiner was profiled by acclaimed journalist Caryn Rose for Salon where he discussed music as a form of resistance and building community.
