Philly Indie Musician Bel Announces Sophomore Album Licorice and Joint Album Release Show at The Fallser Club 11/14
Philly indie-rock project Bel has announced their sophomore album, Licorice, out November 14. Bel is the moniker of musician and songwriter Isabel Furman, who has been releasing music under the name since 2019. Known for her dreamy soundscapes and intricate guitar work, Bel’s imaginative songwriting has drawn comparisons to artists like Snail Mail and Madison Cunningham.
Licorice is Bel’s first full-length release since the 2022 debut album, Beaches, and explores themes of co-dependency, isolation, and long-term love. Lead singles Canadian Tuxedo and No More Time showcase the album’s emotional and stylistic range, from tongue-in-cheek love songs to existential anthems. While previous releases focused on heartbreak and grief, Licorice unpacks the emotional dynamics of stable relationships, inspired by Furman’s recent marriage to her partner of six years.
The album also marks a bold sonic shift. Influenced by her work as a guitarist in local punk band Honeythunder, Furman leans into heavier textures and rock-driven arrangements. Licorice is her most dynamic and honest work to date, asking the urgent question: “What does it mean to make something last?
To celebrate the release, Bel is teaming up with fellow local indie musician Maria Mirenzi—whose new EP shares the same release date—for a joint release show at The Fallser Club, with Ari Carter opening. Bel was introduced to Maria Mirenzi at their former workplace and instantly felt connected to Maria’s thoughtful songwriting and evocative voice. Their friendship has since evolved into a creative partnership, supporting each other’s projects and performing at each other’s shows. When the two realized that their releases would drop on the same day, they decided to celebrate together. Grab tickets for the show at The Fallser Club on 11/14 HERE.
