Philly DJ & Instrumentalist Bad Leather Unleashes Electronic Debut Album, Unnatural Behavior
Unnatural Behavior is the debut studio album from Philadelphia-electronic artist Bad Leather. The 9-song collection showcases the producer's genre-defying approach, seamlessly blending infectious disco and electronica with soulful downtempo and even funk elements across original compositions that feature live instruments, digital production, and diligently curated samples.
"This album represents a culmination of my years performing with a live band, producing in my home studio, and touring as a DJ," says Joe Vela, the mastermind behind Bad Leather. "While I've been performing solo extensively, Unnatural Behavior marks my first collection of original productions – a natural evolution of everything I've been building toward."
Drawing from a rich palette of influences, Unnatural Behavior transports listeners to a golden era while maintaining a distinctly modern edge. Bad Leather's unique fusion style has already proven its power to bring dance floors together, having sold out the last four headline performances and captivating audiences in both intimate club settings and national festival stages.
The project has earned recognition through direct support slots over the years with Chromeo, Bob Moses, The Magician, Bon Entendeur, and DJ Logic, while gracing prestigious festivals including the Bonnaroo VIP Tent, Elements Festival, and Envision Festival in Costa Rica. Vela, who also serves as drummer for indie electronic-jam outfit Tweed and produced Philadelphia's SENSORiUM Festival (which hosted over 2,000 attendees), brings a multi-faceted musical perspective to this solo venture. He also founded the globally known emoji-inspired sexual wellness brand Emojibator, which explains Bad Leather's origins, tracing back to intimate adult parties in NYC, where he first developed DJ sets for euphoric and boundary-pushing dance experiences.
With Unnatural Behavior now available, Bad Leather continues to establish itself as a force in the electronic music landscape, delivering an energy that captivates club devotees and dance music lovers nationwide.
