The three-time Grammy winner, Avi Kaplan, brought his Move Our Souls Tour to Philly last night for an intimate evening at The Fillmore’s upstairs venue. Accompanying Avi were musicians Noah Denny and Kaleb Jones on guitar and drums as well as Gutherie Brown, who is also opening for Kaplan on tour, behind the keys and guitar. They wove a rich tapestry of haunting ballads that would freeze the audience into silence, transfixed, contrasted with more up-tempo songs, allowing the energy to rise and loosen the crowd. One of the most memorable moments of the night was Kaplan’s cover of the song “Mad World.” Together with Denny, Jones, and Brown harmonizing their voices, Avi’s deep baritone resonated throughout the venue, surpassing the thunderstorm that was happening outside—I don’t think any recording can truly capture the power of his vocals like hearing him live. Kaplan and his crew’s next stops will be in New Hampshire, Ohio, and ending in July in Nashville. More information about shows and tickets can be found on his website: avikaplanofficial.com
